Welcome to my website!

Born in Los Angeles but bred in Milwaukee, I hold a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I currently teach at Cardinal Stritch University.

I am a multi-award-winning teacher, and have developed courses on race and ethnicity in the US, marriage and family, the sociology of the body, deviance, and undergraduate qualitative methods.

My current research project focuses on how we conceive of, and attempt to control, “the obesity epidemic,” especially for children.

When I’m not teaching, I love to sing, and have done so professionally on and off since I was a teenager. Check out some of my latest recordings!

I am also an avid knitter, and will probably make you a hat and scarf if you ask nicely. My Swedish meatballs have won awards.
